Rotorua to Taupo

This is a short journey, but there are some interesting attractions along the way.

Getting started, take SH3 south out of Rotorua. Very soon you'll be driving beside the Whakarewarewa Forest Park where there are some good bushwalks, thermal pools and geysers.

As you continue south you will pass through Tumunui, Waiotapu and Parekarangi, before rolling into Golden Springs.

Golden Springs features many hot pools and amenities to relax and soothe yourself in the thermal wonderland.

As you leave south on SH5, again there is a long drive through private pine forests before emerging at Wairakei Village and Wairakei itself with museums, craft stores and the huge thermal expanse called Craters of the Moon.

From there, SH5 and SH1 merge for the short trip into Taupo.
